HEALTHY IN POMONA (HiP)

Healthy in Pomona is a collaborative group of residents and organizations who are dedicated to improving the health of Pomona by supporting Pomona’s Promise, a Collective Impact Initiative and championing the HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) Resolutions.

Some of our members include the American Heart Association, BlueShield of California, Cal Poly Pomona, City of Pomona, Community Translational Research Institute (CTRI), Day One Pomona, East Valley Community Health Center, Foothill Family Services, House of Ruth, Institute for Public Strategies, LA County Department of Public Health, Lions Club, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (NCADD-ESGPV), Parents Anonymous,Parktree Community Health Center, Partnership for a Positive Pomona, Pomona Environmental Advocacy for Community Health (P.E.A.C.H.), Pomona Unified School District, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Pomona Valley Runners, Pomona’s Farmers Market, Pomona Police Department, Pomona’s Wellness Community (LADPH), Project Sister, Prototypes, So Cal Service Corps, Supervisor Hilda Solis’ office, Tri-City Mental Health Services, Volunteers of America, Western University of Health Sciences, residents, and more.

 

Noteworthy achievements:

  • Launched and Implemented the 20/20 Vision Campaign with our partners the Lion’s Club and Western University  

  • Park Explorer program with the dA center for the arts 

  • Partnered with PEACH to implement an Urban Harvest that led to the collection of over 500 lbs of locally grown fruits and Veggies to help supplement food pantries

  • East Valley Community Health Clinic (EVCHC) launched onsite medical clinic at Hope for Home in Summer 2020.

  • Hope for Home (H4H) Site Partners worked closely with East Valley Community Health Clinic and the L.A. County Department of Public Health to protect individuals and prevent the spreading of COVID-19.

  • Street Outreach program in collaboration with Pomona PD to distribute masks and other PPE.

  • PCOCC hosted Eviction Moratorium training to provide agencies with information to distribute to residents that are at-risk for homelessness.
    PCOCC volunteers participated in food distribution with local food banks.

Healthy in Pomona meets quarterly on the 4th Wednesday. The 2021 meetings date are:

January 27, April 28, July 28, and October 27

HiP WORKGROUPS

Healthy in Pomona (HiP) has three workgroups

HEALTHY EATING ACTIVE LIVING (HEAL)

Implements goals of HEAL Resolution adopted by the City of Pomona in 2012, including Built Environment, Employee Wellness, and Healthy Food Access. HEAL meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

POMONA CONTINUUM OF CARE COALITION (PCOCC)

Works to prevent homelessness and assist those who are to increase their skills, income, access to housing and self-determination. PCOCC meets on the 1st Thursday of every month.

HEALTH ACCESS COMMITTEE

Focuses in creating avenues to uplift Pomona’s health and wellness by engaging community members and leaders from local health clinics/hospital, behavioral health agencies, and wellness organizations to not only share resources, but to work together to improve care coordination, create a sustainable network, and ensure equitable access to health in Pomona. Health Access Committee meets on the 4thThursday of every month.
